Photo of the Day

The walls are up, the roof is on - lots of progress with our work on the second floor of the front of the orphanage in Jaibon!

"When you sign up to go down to the Dominican Republic with OO you think you are going down their to serve others. You expect that you are bringing something that they need, but after my month I came home and realized that they had something I needed. And I may have done some serving but the people gave me love and insight that I never would have been able to get without. And I will carry that with me everyday, until I go back! "

Our Mission

The mission of Orphanage Outreach is to provide opportunities to orphaned, abandoned, and disadvantaged children. Certainly the children who live at the orphanage are a focus of ours, but all the children in many Dominican communities are disadvantaged in some way. The economics of many towns are very poor, the children only go to school for half a day, and there are minimal extracurricular activities for the children to participate in.

College Teams

An Orphanage Outreach trip is a great option for a college alternative break team. You are invited to join us any week or weeks of the year. During the school year, our college teams are usually focused on teaching English in local Dominican grade schools. During holiday weeks and over the summer, the teams provide learning camps to children. Pre-med, pre-dental, and nursing teams are invited to join us to teach public health education classes, and to volunteer at our medical and dental clinics as part of the Orphanage Outreach Health Corps program. And college Spanish clubs have an amazing opportunity to practice and expand their Spanish through constant conversations, and teaching classes in Spanish - geography, reading, public health, and more. We invite your team to join us for your next alternative break!

In addition to the service, you will also have an opportunity to explore a part of the island for additional cultural experiences--perhaps visiting a farmer's market on the Haiti border, some significant historical locations, or a national park beach.

Some very valuable experiences get packed into a one or two week alternative break.

If you haven't led a team to a developing country before (and even if you have), you will appreciate the "turn key" approach we take. We will purchase the insurance, meet you at the airport, arrange the meals, housing, ground transportation, and projects. You'll still be busy, but it will be time well spent working with and supporting your team members, not managing basic logistics.

We invite your team to join us for your next alternative break!
