"I really enjoyed my time with Orphanage Outreach and always remember it as a positive experience in my life. I\'m really glad I took the time out of my winter break to go to the Dominican Republic and serve at the orphanage. Those children will always be in my heart."

Episcopal High School Episcopal High School (Alexandria, VA)
Episcopal High School teams have joined Orphanage Outreach in the Dominican Republic for Alternative Spring Break 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The 2008 team consisted of 28 students and 3 faculty member. The team taught English in one of the local grade schools, and helped to build a facilities addition at the orphanage. Says faculty member Maggie Melson, "The Episcopal High School team experience at Orphanage Outreach in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic was life-changing. All members of our group enjoyed teaching English to Spanish speakers, both at Escuela Basica Francisco Javier and at the Orphanage. Every little detail, from walking through the village to school to living at the Orphanage, gave us a clear understanding of the needs in this part of the D.R. We were amazed by the kindness and gratitude displayed by many who have so little by U.S. standards. We will never forget the people we met or the grace of those we worked with during our spring break"

Taft School The Taft School (Watertown, CT)
Alternative Spring Break teams from The Taft School have also joined Orphanage Outreach in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Says faculty member Roberto d'Erizans, "Reflecting on the experience, one word stands out in my mind: bond. We bonded as a group, bonded with the orphanage kids, bonded with the students at the local school, and most importantly strongly bonded with the work we did. The experience opened student's eyes and they all saw themselves continuing this type of volunteer work at our school and in future trips to Monte Cristi. The Orphanage Outreach leaders were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, encouraging, and genuinely cared about our personal and individual experiences. Having experienced different volunteer trips nationally and internationally, this is the first time a group of students has felt that they genuinely bonded with the people they served. I strongly recommend this great experience for high school students".

Our Mission

The mission of Orphanage Outreach is to provide opportunities to orphaned, abandoned, and disadvantaged children. Certainly the children who live at the orphanage are a focus of ours, but all the children of Monte Cristi are disadvantaged in some way. The economics of the town are very poor, the children only go to school for half a day, and there are minimal extracurricular activities for the children to participate in.
